For shame, Takara!
Honestly, it's a pretty sorry state of affairs when a third-party company can engineer a more elegant solution for a Masterpiece figure than Takara can. With the unsightly hip-skirts present on both Masterpiece Ironhide and Ratchet one got the feeling that Takara just sort of gave up and said 'eh, it's good enough'. Well, many people didn't agree with that and so Shadow Fisher came to the rescue with an elegant solution that not only removes the skirts, but fills in the sides of the robot mode chest and improves the overall silhouette of both figures. It also improves articulation as the legs can now move out to the sides in a full 'Van Damme' pose. It's such a neat, efficient fix one has to wonder how in the world Takara's designers couldn't come up with something similar, unless of course, you know, they really did just give up...
The only negative thing I have to say about the kit is that some of the panel detailing isn't an exact match for the official piece it replaces, but it's only visible in alt mode and even then you have to look closely. This minor issue is a small price to pay for such an aesthetic improvement. Grab this kit whist you can!
