A good but flawed attempt
XTB's Eligos is a flawed representation of a Masterpiece scale Cyclonus, but still a very good one. To start with the good, I really like the scale and overall proportions in robot mode (he looks like a real brute or 'enforcer'). The detailing is also spot on when you compare it to the animation model, right down to little things like the patterns on the legs and wings. The face sculpt is also pretty good and the inclusion of the alternate face with the soul patch beard is a nice touch for those who want it. He also comes with a satisfying array of weapons, including multiple guns and a sword. The decision to include chromed red eyes along with the light-piped eyes is a most welcome one. In jet mode he really looks the part and is very close to the animation model (although not identical). Cyclonus's colour has always been a divisive issue, as it changed between the movie and the regular series, but I like that XTB went with the movie colours. The main shade of purple is a nice one and the magenta accents compliment it. There even appears to be a slight pink hue to the face, biceps and thighs, which is movie accurate.
As for the bad, the legs are quite chunky and the double-jointed knee has an annoying habit of becoming untabbed when posed. There are also tolerance issues, particularly in alt mode, with tabs being difficult to click into place without fear of snapping them off and legs that never quite fully close together at the rear of the jet. The clearance issues can also result in paint chipping on the nose cone, which seems to be a common problem with XTB figures going by the evidence of both Eligos and Andras. With that said, I still love this figure and am able to overlook its failings because I mainly display in robot mode. Just be aware that if you frequently transform your figure you could be in for a frustrating and potentially damaging time.
The one & only Cyclonus
This was my first order at TFS-Express. They responded to an initial Email on the same day & Cyclonus reached me over here in Germany within the same week. Therefore, extremely well serviced! Thank you very much.
Cyclonus came in robot mode and I have to mention here that I intend to keep him this way and will not transform him. As a result I cannot judge how well things would fit in plane mode, but the figure itself reassembles the Cyclonus character from the 80's Cartoon as close as one could get. It is also quite heavy (550g) and you have quite a good amount of posing options.
I just hope that Scourge & the Sweeps as well as Galvatron will be available again in the foreseeable future.
I was hoping for better.
Considering that this models release date was repeatedly delayed I was hoping that all of the teething troubles would have been ironed out (it might just be my copy) but they were not.
The top and bottom sections of the nose just in front of the cockpit and the top of the plane with the cockpit canopy do not connect flush in plane mode. The various tabs require a degree of 'force' to get passed each other that might make repeated transformations damaging to the condition of the model.
I like complicated transformations but there are clearance issues with the panels for the legs.
So whilst I like the actual look of Eligos in both modes, I do think the extended production time could have removed these issues.
Eligoa A.K.A. masterpiece Cyclonus
Amazing figure, well jointed and with lots of posing potential! Both robot and alternate futuristic jet fighter mode are nothing sort of incredible, the targetmaster is also quite good.As accurate as the cartoon series.Only gripe, a bit difficult to transform, it takes a while to figure out all the steps on the feet panels, and very heavy on the feet, other than that, one of the best figures to date!
